Royal Canin VCN - Pediatric Starter Small Dog

Royal Canin VCN Pediatric Starter Small Dog is a complete food for puppies of small breeds from weaning up to 2 months of age and for pregnant/lactating dogs.

A puppy undergoes many changes during the weaning period. Conditions such as worm infections, diarrhoea, vaccinations, etc. can lead to stress, both mentally and physically. Stress reduces resistance to disease and increases the transport speed of food in the intestines, which may lead to diarrhoea. A number of these stressors may be limited by good hygiene and a worming treatment.

The food can also be ground first and/or soaked in water or milk. From the age of 4 weeks many puppies can eat dry food. It is very important that the puppy has its own food bowl, otherwise it can lead to unwanted behaviour in later life (such as eating too quickly or food envy).

Pediatric Starter Small Dog dry food is intended for

• Weaning puppies up to the age of 2 months
• Females of small to medium breeds (25 kg adult weight) during pregnancy from the 6th week and during lactation (nursing).

Use

At the beginning of the weaning period, warm water or milk can be added to the dry food until it begins to lump (soak for 20 minutes in 60 degree water). These lumps are the size, composition and shape of porridge.

There are three ways of preparing the Starter foods:

• 1. Soaked and mashed (early weaning) to facilitate the transition from sucking to chewing solid food.
• 2. Soaked but not mashed to help your puppy transition to eating solid food, and to ensure sufficient moisture absorption (in the middle of the weaning period).
• 3. Dry food for puppies that can chew at the end of the weaning period.

Composition

Dehydrated poultry meat, rice, animal fats, wheat gluten, maize, beet pulp, hydrolysed animal proteins, minerals, fish oil, soya oil, fructooligosaccharides (FOS), fatty acid salts, yeast extract (source of mannan-oligosaccharides and beta-glucans), egg powder, Tagetes (African) extract (source of lutein).
