Royal Canin

Health is our priority!

Royal Canin was created and founded in 1968 by the French veterinarian Jean Cathary. At the time, he frequently treated dogs suffering from skin issues due to food allergies. He then thought, “This is something I must and can address.” This marked the inception of Royal Canin! Drawing from his own practice, he began developing hypoallergenic dog food himself.

Which is better for my pet: kibble or wet food?

Dry and wet foods are equally good: both provide all the essential nutrients your pet needs. Therefore, you can choose based on your preference and that of your pet. Wet food helps increase your pet’s water intake, while dry food supports dental hygiene. Additionally, the flavour of wet food can appeal to picky eaters. In many cases, mixed feeding (both dry and wet food) can be the best solution for your pet. Depending on its size, age, lifestyle, and breed, your cat or dog’s preference may vary. Consult your vet if your pet has any vulnerabilities or health problems. Based on the diagnosis, they may recommend a suitable diet.

How long can I store dry and wet foods, and what is the best way to store them?

To preserve all the nutrients and freshness of kibble, we recommend storing it in its original packaging within an airtight container. Be sure to use an opened container within two months. As the preservatives are natural, the longer the product is open, the more it will oxidise. We do not recommend freezing dry food, as mould may develop after thawing.

Wet food (mousse and pieces in sauce or jelly) should be used within 48 hours of opening. Our experts recommend adding a small layer of water to the can and covering it with foil before refrigerating it to keep the food moist. If you store an opened can at room temperature, discard it after 2 hours. If your pet dislikes refrigerated food, you can bring it to room temperature by adding some warm water.

Canned food can be frozen (this may discolour the product and reduce its fragrance, but the nutritional value remains intact).

Where do the ingredients in Royal Canin products come from?

When choosing raw material suppliers, Royal Canin conducts thorough research at various levels: nutritional value, evaluations at production sites, quality and safety systems, traceability, and capacity for development and innovation. All suppliers must meet requirements for nutritional quality and safety, consistent availability, and nutrient provision for animal needs. Royal Canin is committed to sustainable development: we assess the environmental footprint of our raw materials and choose producers located as close as possible to our production sites.

How much food should I give my pet?

We recommend following the daily recommended amount listed on the packaging for your pet’s ideal weight. A nutrition chart is always a guideline, so it is important to monitor your pet. It is best to divide the recommended daily amount into 2 or 3 meals a day. For growing young animals, 3 to 4 meals are ideal. Use kitchen scales for accurate measurements.
