Bee Hotel

Bees, among other insects, greatly benefit from placing an insect hotel in your garden. The bee population in the Netherlands has drastically declined in recent years even though bees are so important to us! The honeybee pollinates a large variety of fruits we enjoy eating, such as apples, pears, cherries, plums, and more. Bees are currently struggling, facing extinction due to habitat destruction and the use of agricultural pesticides.

Best Location for an Insect Hotel

When placed in the right spot, an insect hotel attracts lots of life, making it fun and interesting to observe! But what is the ideal location for an insect hotel? Insects generally don’t thrive in neatly maintained gardens, they prefer environments with loose leaves and flowering plants. Make sure the entrance of the insect hotel faces south and is as sheltered from the wind as possible. You can hang it at eye level so you can easily observe it, but at least 100 cm off the ground is also good. This prevents splash water from entering and keeps the insects safe from cats.

Benefits of an Insect Hotel

Placing an insect hotel in your garden truly pays off, you help the insects, and they help you in return! Not only does it boost biodiversity, but it also attracts more birds to your garden, providing a beautiful view. Plus, you’ll experience fewer issues with plant damaging pests such as aphids
