BARF for dogs

BARF is an acronym for “Biologically Appropriate Raw Food” or “Bones And Raw Food”. The BARF-diet consists of raw and biological food such as raw meat, finely ground bones, tripe, liver, heart, kidneys and other healthy ingredients such as dairy products, fruit and vegetables, that are given to the dog unprocessed and uncooked. The diet consists of a balanced composition that can be designed specifically for your pet!

The origin of BARF

The BARF method as we know it today, was devised by Australian veterinarian Ian Billinghurst, who fed his dogs fresh meat and bones for years. He noticed that they were full of life, had glossy coats and bright eyes. The BARF philosophy is to keep your pet as healthy as possible by feeding your dog the same as wild dogs.

BARF for beginners

According to the BARF-diet, adult dogs require 50% raw meat and bones, 20% organ meat, 15% fruit and vegetable mix and 15% supplements, vitamins and leftovers (such as dairy and raw egg). The BARF-diet is based on raw meat and bones, which is important because they consist of calcium, minerals, vitamins and bone marrow.
