Product Description
Pavo Colostrum
Pavo Colostrum is a food supplement containing essential substances to support the immune system for the first 48 hours of a foal's life.
Application
Newborn foals have no natural antibodies to protect against infection, only from the age of 3-5 weeks can the youngster produce enough for itself. During this period the foal needs to take on these antibodies through colostrum (mare's first milk). If, for whatever reason, a foal can not get enough colostrum it is important to remedy this as soon as possible. One solution is to administer Pavo Colostrum within 12 hours after birth. Antibodies can cross the intestinal wall for the first day after birth. Within 12 hours of the birth, absorption by the body is very good, but this dwindles after 24 hours.
Instructions:
Heat 1 litre of Pavo FoalMilk to hand-warm temperature (38 ºC). If there is no mare milk or Pavo FoalMilk available, semi skimmed cow's milk can be used. Do not use water alone as it does not contain any nutrients. Dissolve the contents of one sachet of Pavo Colostrum and give the foal 250 ml of warm (38 ºC - 40 ºC) colostrum every hour via a teat or from a bucket.
Preparation:
Never warm milk in the microwave! Pavo Colostrum should preferably be administered with mare milk just after birth (preferably within 3 hours but definitely within 12). If a weak filly or colt has no natural colostrum, use two sachets. To be on the safe side, ask a vet to inspect the foal within 24 hours of birth.
