Hill's a/d Urgent Care 

Hill's a/d Canine/Feline is recommended for recovery and intensive care (including weight loss, weakness, convalescence after surgery and tube feeding) and for hepatic lipidosis (without encephalopathy or a primary liver disorder). This wet food contains an increased level of special proteins, to facilitate the recovery process and strengthen the immune system. The soft and palatable formula is easy to feed by hand or syringe and contains ingredients that are easy to digest, and contains extra calories to aid a speedy recovery after an operation or serious illness.

Recovery and impaired health

For both dogs and cats, a serious injury, illness or surgery can cause other knock-on health problems. Animals may struggle to maintain their natural resistance without losing weight in the form of musculature or organ tissue. This may get in the way of a quick recovery.

Nutritional advice

For best results, food should be served between room and body temperature (20-40ºC), do not use straight from the fridge. When fed via a syringe, contents should be mixed thoroughly before administering. Discard any uneaten portions within 36 hours. In animals with reduced stomach or intestine function, a transitional period of 3 days may be required:

• Day 1 - one third of the recommended amount with twice as much water;
• Day 2 - two thirds of the recommended amount with half as much water;
• Day 3 - full amount undiluted.

If using a feed tube, mix food with 1-2 parts water.

Not suitable for

Hill's canine/feline a/d is not recommended if the aim is to remove excess fluid or prevent accumulation of nitrogen, phosphorus or sodium waste products. Not suitable for animals intolerant to high fat intake (e.g. hyperlipidaemic pancreatitis) or with history or risk of pancreatitis.

Meat and animal by-products (chicken 13%), cereals, oils and fats, minerals, eggs and egg by-products, various sugars. Highly digestible ingredients: Turkey, pork, chicken, rice flour, fish oil, dried egg proteins.
