Give your dog food in a clean bowl and provide fresh drinking water daily.

Dog poop

One of the biggest annoyances in the Netherlands is dog poop on streets or in playgrounds. It is very unpleasant when someone unexpectedly steps in it. Moreover, dog feces contain worms and bacteria that can transmit diseases to humans, especially children, who are more vulnerable. To prevent the spread of diseases, it is important to deworm your dog regularly and clean up after them immediately. You can use special poop bags for this.

Bathing

Bathing your dog is part of good hygiene. However, this does not need to be done too often—only when your dog’s coat is dirty. Use a special dog shampoo when washing. After bathing, make sure all shampoo residues are rinsed out to prevent itching. Dry your dog with a large towel and, if needed, use a hairdryer. Be careful not to blow too close to the skin.

Handwashing

Make sure that you and your children always wash your hands after petting or cuddling the dog. Dogs often roll in all sorts of dirt to mask their scent, but this can be full of germs. To clean damaged skin, you can use Dettol disinfectant. This product can also be used for the preventive cleaning of small wounds.

Home

Regularly clean your home as well. Dogs shed hair everywhere, so vacuum frequently and, if possible, use disinfectant cleaning products. To remove dog hair from the couch or clothing, you can use a lint roller. Urine stains and odors can be effectively removed with Urine-Off for dogs.

Toys

Clean your dog’s toys regularly as well. Plush toys can be placed inside a pillowcase and washed in the washing machine. Plastic toys can be cleaned with a special disinfectant. Tennis balls can easily be washed with dog shampoo. Always rinse all toys thoroughly with water.

Dog bed

A plastic dog bed is easier to clean than a wicker basket, so consider this when buying dog supplies. If you prefer a wicker basket, you can clean it with a special spray. Fabric beds are often machine washable.
