  • Product Description

SANIMED Renal Cat is now called SANIMED Renal, Liver and Stones Cat. The composition of this product remains the same.

    Kidney function

The main job of the kidneys is to filter and remove waste products from the blood. This purification of the blood takes place in the so-called renal corpuscles. A kidney is made up of more than 1 million renal corpuscless. In renal failure, there is a decrease in the number of renal corpuscles, causing the kidneys to function insufficiently, which means that more moisuture is lost. One of the symptoms of chronic renal failure is that your cat urinates frequently. To compensate for this loss, your cat will drink more and more. In addition to extra fluid loss, kidney failure does not purify the blood sufficiently. Eventually, waste products (which are normally excreted in the urine) build up in the blood, making the cat feel sick.

Properties SANIMED Renal, Liver and Stones Cat

SANIMED Renal, Liver and Stones Cat contains a low phosphorus content to slow the loss of kidney corpuscles, renal failure is thus decreased. The high content of salmon oil in SANIMED Renal, Liver and Stones also slows down the decline of kidney corpuscles. Salmon oil is rich in Omega-3 fatty acids that improve blood flow (and thus filtration) of the kidneys and lower blood pressure. The protein content in SANIMED Renal, Liver and Stones is low to reduce the amount of urea (breakdown product of protein) in the blood. The low sodium content keeps blood pressure from getting too high.

    Indications

SANIMED Renal, Liver and Stones is available as complete dry food and as complete wet food. The products have the same effective composition and are therefore completely interchangeable. Can be provided indefinitely.

  • Mainstay of my elderly cat’s renal diet
By Linda, Wednesday 8 November 2023

I’ve been using this for a while now and my elderly cat is mostly happy with it and the worst of his symptoms have stopped. I have recently supplemented it with another renal product to give him a little flavour variation

We've gone through many renal wet catfoods and this is the only one she consistently likes. Cats are individuals and there's no way to predict what they'll like or for how long so it's try and see. If you find yourself with half a pack of something left over - consider donating to a cat rescue charity.

  • Very disappointed
By Norma Kinnison, Wednesday 17 May 2023

Sanimed was the only renal food that my cat liked when she tried it in a taster pack, so I sent for a couple of boxes but now, unfortunately, she won't go anywhere near it. Disappointing all round.

  • Mixed feelings

While my cat really likes this food it seems to make her vomit.

  • Renal cat food
By Mary French, Tuesday 16 August 2022

I have a very fussy cat when it comes to choice of food. This one is on his ‘shortlist’ for likability. There are renal wet foods that many cats do not like so it’s good to find one that is so acceptable.
