    Food hypersensitivity

A hypersensitive reaction to food can manifest itself in skin complaints or gastrointestinal problems. The two may also occur at the same time. These symptoms are not specific and can therefore also occur in other, more severe, disorders. Always ask your veterinarian for advice!

    Royal Canin Hypoallergenic Cat

For the treatment of food hypersensitivity, your veterinarian will often prescribe a certain diet. Royal Canin Hypoallergenic Cat has been developed for the diagnosis and treatment of food hypersensitivity. This diet food is also suitable as part of the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders and skin problems.

    Recommended for

    • Food allergies (dermatological disorders and/or digestive problems)
    • Food intolerance
    • Elimination diet (a test diet which rarely causes adverse reactions; use for at least 6 weeks)
    • Chronic enteritis/Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)
    • Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI)
    • Bacterial overgrowth
    • Constipation (in cases of no response to dietary fibre)

    Key features

Royal Canin Hypoallergenic Cat contains hydrolysed soy proteins with a low molecular weight. These proteins are seldom recognised as allergens (agents which cause the reaction) and are easily digestible. A special combination of vitamins and zinc reduces water loss from the skin and improves its barrier function. Omega-3 fatty acids (EPA / DHA) have an anti-inflammatory effect. The combination of fructooligosaccharides (FOS) and zeolite (a specific mineral) promotes balanced intestinal flora and helps protect the intestinal wall. The food is gluten- and lactose-free, and contains L-tyrosine for optimal coat pigmentation (Intensive Colour).

    Ingredients

Rice flour, hydrolysed soya protein isolate, animal fats, rice, vegetable fibre, minerals, beet pulp, hydrolysed poultry liver, soya oil, fish oil, fructo-oligosaccharides, borage oil, tagetes meal. Protein sources: hydrolysed soy protein isolate (23.5%), hydrolysed poultry liver (2.0%). Carbohydrate source: rice (42.1%).

    Additives

    Nutritional additives: Vitamin A: 29,500IE, Vitamin D3: 800IE, Iron (3b103): 40mg, Iodine (3b201, 3b202): 3.6mg, Copper (3b405, 3b406): 15mg, Manganese (3b502, 3b504): 52mg, Zinc (3b603, 3b605, 3b606): 154mg, Selenium (3b801, 3b811, 3b812): 0.25mg - Technological additives: Clinoptilolite of sedimentary origin: 5g - Preservatives - Antioxidants.

    Advice

Use Royal Canin Hypoallergenic Cat for at least 6 weeks. Bowel symptoms often disappear faster than skin complaints (the latter may last up to 9 weeks). Cats often have lifelong sensitivity to the same ingredient(s), so this feed can be used indefinitely.

For hypersensitive dogs, Royal Canin Hypoallergenic Dog is available.

I was very nervous introducing this new food to my extremley fussy cat. However due to severe redness and licking/itchiness on my cats underarm area I had to put my foot down and give it a go due to being desperately out of options. Surprisingly she loved it ! didn’t even need to mix alot of her other food in . Really helped with the itching and massive improvement with the redness . The only down point it it very very expensive therefor only 4 stars !.

This is the only food that my elderly kitty will eat every morsel. Nothing is left in the bowl, neither the wet food nor the dry food. Perfect or should that be Purrfect.

  • Not Great!!
By Miss Porter, Sunday 16 April 2023

One of my Bengal’s has been experiencing issues with her skin ( around ears & face) with excessive grooming. Took her to the vet’s which then began a process of elimination. Thankfully it didn’t get too advanced as I found a product that works for her which means it’s a food allergy. However she did not even eat one morsel of this. I’m not saying it doesn’t work but?? She certainly doesn’t like it after a couple of days I had no choice but to try another.
