Stress
Dogs are regarded as part of the family and are increasingly living in homely environments. Certain normal situations in our lives may cause them stress, such as the introduction of a new family member or a holiday. Long-term stress has a negative effect on a dog's health and can also be difficult for owners.
Treatment
- The best way to treat stress is to eliminate the cause, but it is not always possible. In case of persistent stress, medication can be prescribed by your veterinarian and they may refer you to a behavioural specialist. In addition, special diet foods, such as Royal Canin Calm Diet, can help reduce the symptoms of stress.

Royal Canin Calm Diet
Royal Canin Calm Diet is a balanced, complete diet food that can be used for life. It is intended for dogs up to 15 kg. The full impact of the diet will be visible when it is used for at least 14 days before the start of a stressful period. The food can, if necessary, be used for life, but recommended usage is for 2 to 3 months initially.
Key features of the Royal Canin Calm Diet
Royal Canin Calm Diet naturally reduces the symptoms of stress. Alfa-casozepine has a calming effect. L-tryptophan has a positive effect on moods such as anxiety, fear, sleeping and eating behaviour. The special combination of amino acids and vitamins reduces water loss and reinforces the barrier function of the skin. Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids support the skin and coat. Dietary fibre in combination with easily digestible proteins optimise digestion and intestinal flora. The size and texture of the food encourages chewing and Pentasodium triphosphate limits the formation of tartar. Royal Canin Calm Diet also takes into account the risk of urinary tract stones in small dogs.
