Product Description
Manuka ND
Manuka is a sterile, non-adhesive wound dressing infused with Manuka honey.
Wound healing:
Wounds heal by means of a process of events that can affect the wound healing positively or negatively. Research in the 1960s resulted in the development of advanced wound dressings that tried to have a positive effect on the wound environment, in order to achieve optimal conditions for healing. Since then, many modern products have been developed that reduce the bacterial load and/or ensure a healthy level of moisture in the wound.
Resistance to antibiotics is largely responsible for a transition to increasingly localised treatments of wounds. The rediscovery of more traditional methods of wound treatment found that honey can have beneficial effects on wounds.
Manuka honey:
Honey, Manuka honey in particular, is one of these old remedies. The honey, made from the nectar of the Manuka bush (Leptospermum scoparia), has proven to be of great value in modern wound care. It can positively affect the wound environment and is frequently and successfully used for its powerful antimicrobial, debridement and anti-inflammatory properties. The honey is now a routine option for all types of wounds in veterinary practices.
Wound dressings:
The Manuka wound dressings have strong anti-microbial properties. The wound dressings are available in two types. An absorbent bandage Manuka AD that is used to clean the wound. When the wound is clean and the process of granulation (formation of connective tissue) has begun, a non-adhesive dressing (Manuka ND) should be applied. Both versions are available in 5x5 cm and 10x12.5 cm bandages and 10x100 cm rolls, suitable for large vertical wounds (e.g. a horse's leg). Manuka honey is also available in pure form, in the honey-gel tube (15 g).
