Toothpaste for Dogs

If your dog suffers from plaque and tartar, it can lead to gum inflammation. This may result in pain or bad breath. You can prevent this by regularly brushing your dog’s teeth. Use a special toothbrush and toothpaste designed for dogs. There are also complete dental care sets that include both a toothbrush and toothpaste, such as the Orozyme Dental Care Set.

Why not use human toothpaste?

Human toothpaste often contains ingredients that can be toxic to dogs. Dog toothpaste, on the other hand, is safe and typically comes in flavors like chicken or beef, which makes brushing more enjoyable for your dog. The earlier you start brushing, the easier it will be to turn it into a routine!

Teaching Your Dog to Accept Tooth Brushing

Your dog needs to get used to the toothpaste. Start by putting a little on your finger and letting your dog lick it off. Then help your dog get comfortable with being touched—rub a small amount of toothpaste on their teeth using your finger. As a final step, wet the toothbrush with water and press the toothpaste into the bristles. Try brushing your dog’s teeth, starting with the canines, as the front part of the mouth is usually more sensitive. Keep the mouth closed to prevent your dog from chewing on the toothbrush.
