Colour

Labradoodles come in different types of colours. There are two types of coats; the fleece coat and wool coat. The fleece coat is soft and easy to maintain. This coat can be curly and wavy and may apply to the Labradoodle. The wool coat requires a little more maintenance, the coat should not be too thick and will easily fall apart. The Australian Labradoodle should not have an undercoat. The coat barely falls apart and does not smell.

Hypoallergenic breed

People with a dog allergy react to dog saliva and dog hair/dander. Dander and hair are shed simultaneously. A Labradoodle’s coat grows continuously, causing them to lose less hair and spread less allergenics. Due to the coat’s structure, the loose hair stays in the coat. This does mean that you should brush your dog at least once a week. Labradoodles do shed and can thus still cause an allergic reason, it just happens less than with a dog that sheds more often. Only purebred Australian Labradoodles are hypoallergenic.

Australian labradoodle

Most people use the generic term labradoodle when they really mean the Australian Labradoodle. The Labradoodle originates from Australia. The breed was bred in the seventies specifically as a service dog with a coat that wouldn’t cause an allergic reaction.

Labradoodle mini

The Labradoodle is a popular breed, but did you know they come in several sizes? There are three Labradoodle sizes. The mini Labradoodle is the smallest and weighs between 7 and 12 kg. The medium doodles weigh between 13 and 20 kg. The mini Labradoodle is between 35 and 42 cm high and suitable as both a family dog and a service dog.

Labradoodle puppy

Are you thinking of buying a Labradoodle puppy? Make sure you know what to pay attention to. Don’t get scammed and ask for the pedigree. A reputable breeder will invite you for an initial meeting to inquire about your wishes for a Labradoodle and determine whether you’re a suitable owner for the breed. Do you have time for long walks or is your schedule too busy? Make sure to research the breed!

Approach to the training

Labradoodles certainly need physical, but also an intellectual challenge. They don’t settle for a stroll around the house, but love to go out with their owner for a long walk. Each day, they require 1.5 to 2 hours of exercise. Many Labradoodles also love swimming.

Dog sports

The Labradoodle is very suitable as a family dog, but can also be used as an assistance dog. They are regularly used as therapy dogs for children with autism, Down syndrome or other special needs.

Labradoodles are suitable for owners who:

  • Are looking for a happy dog
  • Have lots of time to take good care of their dog. Especially coat care
  • Enjoy active long walks (they also love swimming)
  • Have children and are looking for a family dog
