Border Collie
The Border Collie is known worldwide for his enormous intelligence and ‘will-to-please’. A Border Collie has to show that he is easily able to be active for long periods of time. The Border Collie should have stamina and be fast. The body shouldn’t be too large with well curved ribs and a deep and reasonably wide chest. The hindquarters are broad and muscular, with the groin flowing towards the tail. Powerful jump, and rather low placed. Furthermore, the Border Collie has a powerful neck that widens slightly towards the shoulders.
Characteristics
Colour
The Border Collie has a medium-length shiny coat with a thick undercoat. All colours are allowed, but white should never dominate. A black and white coat is the most common.
Approach to training
The Border Collie is truly a dog that needs training with its owner. This way you prevent any boredom, you raise your dog the correct way and you make your dog happy. Border Collies are very quick learners and love to work for their owner. They pick up new commands very quickly and most Border Collies have a natural predisposition to herding cattle. Training shouldn’t be as difficult as long as your Border Collie gets a lot of attention and movement he needs. The Border Collie is also a real perfectionist and prefers to work for his boss every day.
Dog sports
The Border Collie is, of course, suitable for herding sheep, but also for Agility, Flyball and Obedience (at the highest level).
Border Collies are suitable for owners who:
- Love to make progress with their dog dog sports
- Are often busy with their dog
- Hate to sit still and love to walk a long distances
