Norwegian Forest Cat
The Norwegian Forest Cat is an easy-going and self-assured breed. The breed needs a lot of space and climbing opportunities. The Norwegian Forest Cat likes staying close to its owner, but isn’t necessarily a lap cat. Their coat needs quite a bit of care.

A Norwegian Forest Cat is generally a very easy-going cat that is known for being self-assured. The cats like to be near their human, but aren’t necessarily lap cats.
Appearance
Colour
The Norwegian Forest Cat is accepted in almost all colours, with exception of chocolate, lilac, fawn, cinnamon, colourpoint and Burmese patterns. White is accepted in all amounts.
Body, tail and legs
The muscular and robust body of the Norwegian Forest Cat gives them a powerful appearance. The posture can of a male and female cat can differ greatly, with females often being a lot smaller. The Norwegian Forest Cat has a long body with a broad chest and long muscular legs with substantial bones. The front legs are shorter than the hind legs and the paws are rounded with tuffs between the toes. The bushy tail is long, broad and tapers to a point. The tip of the tail can reach the cat’s neck.
Head, ears and eyes
The head of a Norwegian Forest Cat is rectangular. The forehead is flat with a straight profile and the nose is of medium length. This breed has a strong chin and big, almond-shaped eyes. Although all eye colours are accepted, green or gold is preferred. White Norwegian Forest Cats usually have blue or copper eyes. The average-sized ears are widely set with heavy furnishing. Lynx tips are very much preferred.
Coat
The Norwegian Forest Cat has a medium-length, double coat with a very thick and woolly undercoat. The shiny topcoat is greasy and water-repellent, with a smooth feel. The length differs per body part. The hair on the shoulders is shorter, while the hair on the back and flanks is longer.
Weight
The average weight of a Norwegian Forest Cat is between 3 and 9 kg.
