All coat colours are allowed, except for lilac, chocolate and colourpoint.
Body, legs and tail
The medium-sized body of the German Rex is firm and well-muscled. However, this breed is not massive or heavy. The chest is round and powerful. From the shoulders to the hindquarters, the back is straight. The German Rex has slim, medium length legs with well-developed oval or round feet. The tail is medium long and thick at the base. This runs thinner towards the end. The tail has a full coat.
Head, ears and eyes
The German Rex has a rounded head with a fairly large space between the ears. The cheeks are well developed. The nose is characterised by a slight stop at the base. The chin is massive and strong. This cat has relatively short, curled whiskers. The ears are medium-sized and broad at the base. They are slightly rounded, with many fine hairs on the outside. The inside of the ears is slightly hairy. German Rexes have medium-sized eyes which are set apart. The eyes are open and one-coloured. The colour should be in harmony with the colour of the coat.
Coat
German Rexes have a velvety coat. The soft, short coat is characterised by curls or waves. The German Rex has curls all over the body. There are no guard hairs.
