Egyptian Mau
The Egyptian Mau is a well-balanced breed with an active nature. It enjoys being around its owner and other cats but tends to be quite reserved with strangers. This breed also dislikes too much hustle and bustle, so it’s important to provide a quiet space where it can retreat when needed. Grooming is simple and requires minimal effort.

The Egyptian Mau has a well-balanced personality. It is full of energy, active, and loves to play. This breed is not aggressive or nervous but does prefer a calm environment and tends to be reserved around strangers. Physical Characteristics
Colour
The Egyptian Mau’s coat comes in silver, bronze, and smoke.
Body, Legs, and Tail
The Egyptian Mau has a medium-length body that is neither stocky nor overly slender. Its shoulders are high and angular, with well-developed muscles. The legs are strong, with the hind legs being longer than the front legs, ending in small, slightly oval paws. It has a medium-length tail that is broad at the base and tapers to a fine tip.
Head, Ears, and Eyes
The Egyptian Mau has a wedge-shaped head with slightly rounded contours and no flat areas. The forehead is gently curved, with a slight stop or arch between the nose and forehead. Apart from adult males, the jaws are typically not very full. The muzzle is short, with a nose that is as wide as it is long.
The ears are medium to large, set wide apart, broad at the base, and stand upright, giving the cat an alert expression. The tips are somewhat pointed, with short, close-lying fur on the inside. Lynx tips are desirable.
The eyes are large, almond-shaped, and slightly slanted. They should be bright green, grape green, or gooseberry green. Up to 18 months of age, amber eye colour is also allowed.
Coat
The Egyptian Mau’s coat is short, strong, and lies close to the body, with a silky texture. It naturally features spots across the body and limbs, with dark, round markings evenly distributed over the torso and belly. The forehead is marked with an “M” or scarab symbol, and “mascara lines” extend from the temples to the cheeks. Rings appear on the tail, chest, and legs. The breed also has an interrupted “necklace” – a broken ring around the neck.
